Diontae Johnson Diagnosed with a Concussion, Derek Watt has Hamstring Injury

The Steelers were without two starters during the second half against the Houston Texans. Wide receiver Diontae Johnson and fullback Derek Watt both left the game with injuries during the first half of play.

It is unclear when Johnson or Watt were injured. Johnson’s head did hit the turf on a tackle as he took an end-around. That is likely when he sustained the injury.

With Johnson out James Washington and Chase Claypool will see more snaps on offense. It’s unclear how the Steelers will move forward at fullback if Watt misses any more time. They used Vance McDonald at fullback in the second half on a few snaps, but that may not be a long-term plan.

If Watt is expected to miss more time the Steelers could look into another reunion. Former starting fullback Rosevelt Nix is currently a free agent after being released by the Colts.
